Holly’s delicate hand rose from the tub, tipping a stream of water from her palm. “If I’m to foolishly assume that you like me as much as I like you, then what’s the plan?”
He’d planned on taking her for a leisurely walk at a nearby park. The sun was out. Warm afternoon. “Think my plans have changed,” he admitted.
“Have they.”
Grayson crossed the bedroom and sat on the wide tile surround of the tub. Her brilliant grey gaze followed and threw him into complete and utter chaos. Except for one thought.
Holly’s wet hand slid over his thigh, lighting a fire he wanted to extinguish on her. But he’d promised he’d be on his best behavior. If he was reading her sweet but sexy signals right, she wanted him but at this stage of their relationship, she would never make the first move. At least not without a little nudge.
The fireplace, located a few feet from the end of the tub, infused the room with heat. The heavy drapes were open, and the white sheers allowed filtered light but maintained privacy.
Communicating his feelings to a woman had never been his thing but with Holly, he’d cross every “T” and dot her lips with “I” really want you.
“I love kissing you, Holly.”
He leaned over and pressed his mouth to her soft lips. With her response as heated as his own, he eased his tongue inside to explore, to penetrate, each motion like rocking on a gentle sea. Before retreating, he gently sucked on her bottom lip because he’d dreamed of doing it so many times.
She was taking a chance on him. He knew that. After ending a marriage of mistrust, she had a right to be skittish.
“Two things could happen here,” he said, not moving far from the lips he wanted to kiss again. “I can wait in the living room while you dry off, get dressed, and we head out for a leisurely walk.”
“Or?” she asked in a husky voice.
Only the tops of her full breasts showed above the bubbling waterline, and he traced his thumb where water and skin met. She rested her head against the tub’s sloped edge, and he kissed her blush lips at the same time dipping his fingers beneath the warm water and teasing one very taut nipple.
“Or—we can stay here and burn those damn books.”
“Option number two, please,” she whispered against his mouth. “But…I have a confession to make.”
Although he wanted to spend more time on her tight bud, he thumbed her delicate jaw and nodded for her to go on.
“I got into this tub an hour ago, but I couldn’t get out.” Her bottom lip shifted into a playful pout.
Gray turned his head away, his shoulders shaking as he laughed. And here he’d thought she was trying to seduce him the second he stepped in the door. Instead, she was stuck because of her fractured knee. He shook his head, unable to wipe the smile from his face. Fuck, he really liked this woman.
Gazing into her eyes, his heart swelled. “I’m more than willing to rescue you, sweetheart.”
Lifting a very warm and wet Holly from the water, he set her feet on the top of the tile surround, putting her incredible breasts at his eye level.
“Ummm, Grayson, are you going to help me down?”
“Not until I’m ready, sweetheart.” Damn! “And I’m a long way from ready.”
